The Second World War
The most important thing you have to remember about the Second World War is that it started in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland; which meant that Germany declared war to Great Britain and France. These countries were friends with Poland and that is why these countries came to help Poland out.
Germany, with the help of Italy, invaded large bits of Europe and parts of Africa, but it never succeeded to get Great Britain. In 1941 the German army tried to invade the Soviet Union while the Japanese army attacked the American Navy. The movie Pearl Harbor was about this attack as well. After this attack the United States joined the war together with the Soviet Union and for this time only these great nations were on the same side.
The British and French armies defeated Germany and Italy with the help of the Soviet and American armies. The result was the end of the Second World War in 1945, but there was one part of Germany that the allied armies still occupied. Berlin was split up in different parts because the other countries were afraid that Germany would rise again to power and Berlin was their buffer to prevent this from happening.
